Uni Heidelberg “OSM Mapathon” for Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan: Thursday afternoon, November 14th 2013

UPDATE:
First Impressions from the Mapathon Thursday 14th can be found here.
UPDATE2:
An additional Mapathon will take place on Friday 22nd 2013 in the lecture hall of the Department of Geography, Berliner Str. 48, Heidelberg University.

In order to to support the crisis mappers with better geographic information and maps for the regions affected by super typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan, the GIScience Research Group offers two related events on
Thursday 14th 2013.
We invite everybody to join us and help improving the geographic information urgently needed for practical disaster mangement in the Phillipines etc. Be part of the team!

First at 14:15 there will be a public lecture as introduction to Crisis Mapping and how to practically contribute OpenStreetMap data with the easy to use OpenStreetMap editor iD. The lecture is given by active crisis mappers and OSM community members. They’ll explain the basic concepts of crisis mapping and releant OSM-tags for crisis mapping.

This introductory lecture is given here starting 14:15 (until ca.16:00):

Heidelberg University, Im Neuenheimer Feld
COS / Zoologie , INF 230
Ludwig-von-Bertalanffy Hörsaal

Afterwards there will be an open OSM Mapathon where volunteers collaboratively generate and contribute geographic information about the affected areas to OpenStreetMap. This event takes place at this place at Thursday 17:00:

Heidelberg University, Berliner Str. 48, EG
Department of Geography, Computer-Pool & Lecture Hall, Ground Floor

As there is only a limited number of computers in the PC-Pool please bring your own laptop computer with you.
We try to organize additional dates for further mapathons because of the limited space in the computer pool. Pleas re-check this page for updates!

Update: As we expect more people than would fit into the PC-Pool, we have organized several helping hands as instructing tutors, so that we can split into different groups into different rooms, e.g. Seminar Room, Lecture Hall and PC-Pool, all in BAST 48. We first meet in the lecture Hall (Hörsaal) at ground level.

This data will be actively used by the humanitarian organisations working in the Phillipines!
Many thanks for Jonas Shorn, Andreas Reimer, Joao Porto and Pascal Neis and others for making this happen!
