AGEO Award 2019 at AGIT in Salzburg: Third place for Lukas Winiwarter

3DGeo group member Lukas Winiwarter was awarded the third place of this year’s AGEO award at the AGIT2019 in Salzburg for his diploma thesis on “Classification of 3D Point Clouds using Deep Neural Networks”. It was carried out at TU Wien under the supervision of Dr. Gottfried Mandlburger and Prof. Dr. Norbert Pfeifer, and has previously been awarded a prize. The application of neural networks on point cloud data again proves to be a valuable contribution to the fields of GIScience and Photogrammetry.

The AGEO award, hosted by the Austrian umbrella organisation for geographic information, is open to diploma- and master theses from all Austrian universities. In a two-step process, the submissions were rated based on practical and economical relevance as well as innovation. Placed within the top five, Lukas was further invited to present his research in the AGIT special session “AGEO – Stories of Success”.

We also want to congratulate all other awardees for their great performance, especially this years winner, Hannah Augustin.
