SWR broadcast on the research project HEAL: Taking the safe route through the heat - Transdisciplinary project HEAL makes everyday life easier for at-risk groups

Climate adaptation strategies to support and protect at-risk groups during hot weather periods are being developed as part of the transdisciplinary collaboration in the HEAL project by the research network consisting of the Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology (HeiGIT), the GIScience research group and the TdLab Geography at Heidelberg University. Individual needs of heat-sensitive people and near-real-time sensor data are combined in a heat-stress-avoiding routing application and made available in the form of analogue maps and interactive web applications.

    Klima-Anpassungsstrategien, die Risikogruppen während Hitzeperioden unterstützen und schützen sollen, werden im Rahmen der transdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit im Projekt HEAL vom Forschungsverbund bestehend aus dem Heidelberg Institute for Geoinformation Technology (HeiGIT), der GIScience Forschungsgruppe und des TdLab Geographie der Universität Heidelberg entwickelt. Individuelle Bedürfnisse hitzesensitiver Personen und Nahe-Echtzeit-Sensordaten werden in einer hitzestressvermeidenden Routing-Anwendung kombiniert sowie in Form von analogen Karten und interaktiven Webanwendungen zur Verfügung gestellt.

    Der SWR berichtet über das Forschungsprojekt und die weitere Zusammenarbeit mit Stakeholdern und Partnern.

    Das von der Baden-Württemberg Stiftung im Rahmen des Forschungsprogramms „Innovationen zur Anpassung an den Klimawandel“ mit über 600.000 € geförderte Projekt „Hitzeanpassung für vulnerable Bevölkerungsgruppen“ ist durch die Kombination der gewählten Methoden Vorreiter im Bereich der Anpassungsmaßnahmen an klimawandelbedingte Hitzeereignisse.
